The Save Historic Antietam Foundation Inc. (SHAF) is pleased to announce the acquisition of a modern ranch house located along the renowned Harpers Ferry Road. This property, which has been considered a significant intrusion at the southern end of the Antietam Battlefield, now joins two adjacent lots already owned by SHAF, thanks to the continued support of our members.
Details of the Acquisition
The closing for the property has just taken place. SHAF, in partnership with the American Battlefield Trust (ABT), completed the purchase at a price of $267,500. This acquisition marks the largest dollar amount ever spent by SHAF in nearly 35 years.
Fundraising and Member Support
To help with this monumental effort, SHAF is asking members to contribute toward the purchase. Details regarding a fundraising campaign will be announced soon.
For those who are also members of ABT, please note that ABT is launching its own fundraising campaign for this property as well as for an adjoining ranch house at the exit of the battlefield tour route. The assistance from ABT has been invaluable; without their involvement, this important purchase would not have been within our reach.
